Middle school volleyball teams compete at 2023 Big 4 Tournament

WATERTOWN — The Huron Middle School’s seventh and eighth-grade volleyball teams competed Satuday, at the season-ending Big 4 Tournament.

Seventh Grade
Huron’s seventh-grade opened play with a tough 2-1 loss to Mitchell. Set scores for Mitchell were 23-25, 25-9 and 15-10. Ramsey Rozell had two aces in the match for the Tigers. Huron dropped the second match 2-0 (25-21, 25-9) to Brookings, but came back to post a 2-1 win over Watertown in the third match. Set scores were 25-22, 17-25 and 15-10. Jayla Schley had eight aces and Rozell chipped in three for Huron. Brookings end the tournament with the seventh-grade title.

Eighth Grade
The Tiger eighth-graders opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over Mitchell. Maggie Storm had six kills and Piper DeJean added four. Reagan Bischoff had 12 set assists and DeJean had four aces.

Brookings was the opponent in the second match, and eked out a 25-16, 27-25 win over Huron. Lennon Caudell and DeJean each had seven kills and Storm had six, while Bischoff passed out 22 assists.

The third match was against Watertown. Huron won the first set 26-24, lost the second by the same score, then rebounded with a 15-8 win in the third set to end the day with a 2-1 record.

Claire Davis had seven kills and Bischoff added five kills and had 19 assists in the match.

Brookings also won the eighth-grade Big 4 championship. Huron ended the season with a record of 9-8.
