Rustlers succeed in rescheduled region meet

MOBRIDGE — The Miller boys’ track team won eight events, but it wasn’t enough to catch Mobridge-Pollock in the final team standings at the Region 6A Meet on Friday.
Mobridge-Pollock amassed 184.5 points to secure the region boys’ title, while Miller finished with 171 points. North Central was third at 104.5, followed by Stanley County at 75 and McLaughlin at 57.
Pierce Baumberger and Isaak Hunter each won a pair of events for the Rustlers.
Baumberger turned in a fast time of 4:48.16 to win the 1,600-meter run and was the top runner in the 3,200 event at 10:23.55.
Hunter won the 110 hurdles in 16.80 seconds and had a winning distance of 38 feet, 8.5 inches in the triple jump.
Miller dominated the middle distance races with a pair of wins. Kellan Hurd won the 400 in 54.38 seconds, while Alex Schumacher claimed the top spot in the 800 at 2:01.13.
Another field event title came the Rustlers’ way with Trevor Werdel recording a mark of 139-5 in the discus.
Colby Kolda, Derek Brueggeman, Davin Nelson and Kord VanZee combined to win the 800 relay for the Miller boys in 1:36.54.
Colby Kolda was second in the 100 for the Rustlers at 11.94 and second in the 200 at 23.74. Ian Speck was second in the long jump at 17-10.5.
Mobridge-Pollock also won the girls’ title in Region 6A with a total of 267 points. North Central was second at 131, while Miller was third at 111.
Rounding out the top five were Stanley County at 77 and Dupree at 49.
The Miller girls won four events.
Joanlei Baker won the shot put with a mark of 32-2 for the Rustlers, Gracen Werdel won the high jump at 4-10 and Paige Werdel won the long jump at 16-3.75.
The Rustlers also won the medley relay in 4:35.64. Members of the team were Morgan Kolda, Ally Mullaney, Gracen Werdel and Madeline Nye.
Baker was second for the Rustlers in the discus at 96-4 and Gabby Werdel was second in the 3,200 at 13:30.70.
