Miller edges Lady Patriots in 5 sets

TULARE — Miller needed a 15-11 win in the fifth set to pull out a 3-2 victory against Hitchcock-Tulare on Thursday.

The set scores were 15-17, 21-25, 25-16, 14-25 and 15-11.

Paige Werdel recorded 14 kills on 43 of 51 attacks to lead the Rusters, who improved to 19-4. Shaylee Anderberg was 34 of 36 hitting with 12 kills, while Aleah Schlechter was 38 of 46 with eight kills and Gracen Werdel was 16 of 23 with seven kills.

Heather Resel converted on 14 of 14 serves and had an ace for Miller. Anderberg recorded a team-high 12 points on 19 of 22 serving, while Joanlei Baker was 14 of 16 with an ace and Jolia Palmer was 13 of 15 with a pair of aces.

Resel tallied 37 of the team’s 48 assists on 133 of 135 sets.

Jolie Palmer was 22 of 25 passing with 37 digs, while Anderberg had 19 digs on 26 of 27 passing. Resel and Journey Plamer each had 15 digs. Schlechter finished with three assists blocks, while Werdel had a pair of solo blocks.

Katelyn Schroeder led Hitchcock-Tulare with 14 kills on 55 of 59 attacks, while Ella Johnson had eight kills on 25 of 27 hits.

Isabel Gilbert was perfect on 23 serves for the Lady Patriots, who are now 18-7. Gracyn Bixler was 12 of 13 serving with an ace.

Lila Johnson was 106 of 108 setting with 20 assists for Hitchcock-Tulare. Schroeder and Bixler finished with 29 and 21 digs, respectively. Becca Huizenga and Johnson each had two assisted blocks.

Miller travels to play Platte-Geddes on Tuesday. The Lady Patriots are at Ipswich on Thursday.
