Miller wins title at 2023 BDC tourney

FORT PIERRE - The Miller Rustlers swept their way to a Big Dakota Championship Saturday in Fort Pierre.

The Rustlers opened the tourney with a 25-11 and 25-12 defeat of the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Braves. Jolie Palmer nailed five service aces on 9 of 10 serving while also recording six digs. Shaylee Anderberg recorded three service aces on 13 o 13 serving while also recording six digs.

Aleah Schlechter led the Miller attack with seven kills on 12 of 14 hitting and Heather Resel had 16 assists.

The Rustlers swept the McLaughlin Mustangs 25-11 and 25-8. Kaihlyn Anderberg was a perfect 15 of 15 serving for Miller with five aces. Gracen Werdel nailed four service aces on 8 of 8 serving.

Miller then swept the Winner Warriors by set scores of 25-19 and 25-22. Schlechter led the Rustler attack with nine kills on 19 of 20 hitting while Paige Werdel also nailed nine kills on 17 of 17 hitting.

Resel dished out 28 assists for Miller and had 11 digs while Palmer led the defense with 13 digs.

Miller handed the Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers their first loss of the season with a 25-19, 25-16 sweep.

Schlechter led the Miller attack with 10 kills on 21 of 21 attacking. Resel set up the offense with 24 assists and also added a pair of service aces on 11 of 11 serving.

Palmer paced the defense with 14 digs and also added two aces on 6 of 7 serving.

Werdel, Resel and Schlechter were named to the All-Big Dakota Conference Tournament team for the Rustlers.

Miller (10-2) hosts Redfield on Tuesday.
