Missing Hand County teen located

MILLER — Authorities confirmed that after several days spent searching, the body of 17-year-old Wyatt Rowland has been located.

According to Hand County Sheriff Shane Croeni, Rowland and his pickup were found separately in a small body of water late Monday night southwest corner of S.D. Highway 45 and 191st Street, approximately six miles north of Miller.

Croeni said that at approximately 9 p.m. Monday night, cell phone analysts with the S.D. Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) tracked Wyatt’s cell phone to a small body of water on a piece of property at the intersection.

Authorities noted that tire tracks leading into the body of water matched the vehicle authorities were looking for and divers began searching for Rowland’s pickup, which was located, but Rowland was not in it.

However, early Tuesday afternoon Rowland’s body was located.
Rowland had been with friends in Miller Saturday night, but did not return to his home in Campbell Township.

DCI began searching for his cell phone information after the last ping from the phone was recorded just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning northwest of Miller, near the Lake Louise Recreation Area, one of the routes that were commonly used to return home for Rowland.
