Noyes receives John Wooden Legacy Award


HURON — Huron assistant boys’ basketball coach Jim Noyes has been selected as one of two recipients from South Dakota of the 2023 John Wooden Legacy Award.

The National High School Basketball Coaches Association has teamed with the Wooden family to present the annual award to a boys’ and girls’ coach in each state.

The honor recognizes scholastic basketball coach around the country, who are educators and have achieved excellence on the floor, in the classroom and in the the community that further embodies the characteristics and legacy of Coach John Wooden.

The criteria for this award are rooted in the ideals of education, longevity, character, service and excellence.

The winner of the 2023 John Wooden Legacy Award for girls’ basketball in South Dakota was Ron Determan of Colome.

The 2022 winners were the late Marv McCune of De Smet for boys and Dawn Seiler of Aberdeen Central for girls.
