HURON — During an all-company safety meeting at Northwestern Energy, gas meter technician Tim MacDonald of Huron was presented with an MEA Energy Association Life-Sustaining Award, for actions he took in January 2023 to save the life of George Piper of Huron.
MacDonald was in his Northwestern vehicle when he observed Piper on the sidewalk suddenly stop and fall straight back and immediately knew that something was wrong. After activating safety measures, he attended to Piper, calling 911 and staying with the then-82-year old gentlemen, making him warm and comfortable until emergency services arrived.
Wednesday’s award ceremony was the first time that the two men had met face-to-face since the incident, allowing Piper to thank MacDonald for his assistance that day.
