Peterson, Wenzel named All-Region for Tigers

HURON — The Huron Tigers placed two players on the All-Region team for spring baseball. Bubba Peterson and Layne Wenzel were chosen for the All-Region teams announced by the South Dakota High School Baseball Association for Class A.

Wenzel was the ace of the Tigers’ pitching staff this season, tossing 20 2/3 innings with a 2.03 ERA and 28 strikeouts. Peterson was the heartbeat of the Huron offense, hitting .306 with eight stolen bases on the year. Huron finished the season with a 4-14 record.

Harrisburg, the top seed in this weekend’s Class A state tournament placed just one player on the All-State first team, but had three players on the second team and another player named to All-Region. They were one of four teams with five players recognized in the announcement.

The Huron Post 7 Legion baseball season kicks off Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Yankton beginning at 5 p.m. at Memorial Ballpark.
