HURON - On Saturday, Feb. 8, local law enforcement and community members team up to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics South Dakota.
Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Scoreboard Bar & Grill, 56 Third St. SE. Participants will then head outside to Special Olympics Iowa’s Mobile Plunge Unit at 1:30 PM at take the icy dip in the custom-built trailer.
At the Polar Plunge, participants raise funds and jump into chilly waters to show their support for Special Olympics athletes and increase awareness for individuals living with intellectual disabilities in South Dakota.
Plungers set their own fundraising goals before the event and collect donations in exchange for the opportunity to plunge into icy waters, but they must raise the minimum of $100 to participate.
Individuals can participate alone or create a team with friends, co-workers, or classmates. This year the statewide Polar Plunge theme is tropical!
High school and college students who participate could also win a $500 scholarship.
Each year, Special Olympics Polar Plunges are held across the country to raise awareness and attract communities to this thrilling fundraising event. This year’s Plunge will provide funds for year-round sports training and competition for more than 2,750 Special Olympics athletes, with no cost to the athletes.
