Post 7 sweeps Sturgis

HURON – The Huron Post 7 Tigers swept the Sturgis Post 33 Titans on Sunday in Post 7’s final home games of the 2023 season at Memorial Ballpark.

In the first game, Huron put up three runs in the second inning to secure a 4-2 win.

Layne Wenzel tossed a complete game for the win, allowing two runs over seven innings on five hits and two walks, striking out six Titan hitters.

Ethan Busch had a pair of singles and two stolen bases for the Tigers. Mason Davis, playing in his final series at Memorial, had a pair of singles, a walk, and stole a base.

Logan Leyendecker added a single.

Huron put three runs on the board in the second inning again in the nightcap, winning a pitchers’ duel 3-1 to earn the sweep.

Davis made the start, going five innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits and two walks, striking out one.

Jack Pedersen pitched two scoreless innings of relief, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.

Davis had a pair of singles for Post 7. Wenzel and Jackson Mattke each had a double.

Post 7 completes the regular season with an 11-23 record. They will face Brookings in Brookings beginning Friday to attempt to qualify for the state tournament to be held in Yankton beginning July 25.
