Huron Public Library has a birth-kindergarten program called “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.”
Crystal Whitney of Huron began the program with Charles when he was an infant when Glenda Maxted was the Children’s librarian, and told them that if you read three books a day with your child, you will get to 1,000 in one year.
They got to the first 1,000 when he was 6 months old, and decided to continue to keep track to see how many books they could actually read with him by the time he starts kindergarten.
As of the night before kindergarten, they made it to 10,607 books read in his five years of life!
