HURON — A year’s worth of work and learning hit the road Tuesday, when the house constructed by students in the Huron High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) program departed for its new home near Freeman.

“The house is going to Freeman,” said Matt Busch, the building trades instructor at the school, “where it will be used as a speculation house in a housing development.”

Kelly and Laura Knodel of Freeman were the top bidder for the house, in bid letting which took place in June of 2022.

Busch said the 1,950 square foot residence is the product of three different classes, and includes 66 students. It was the first home built following the expansion of the CTE building on the Huron High School campus, which allows indoor construction throughout the school year.

Each June, the house project is set out for bid, with the winner contributing the floor plan and the CTE students constructing the house.

Next year’s construction, which will begin with the new school year this fall, is also headed to Freeman, as the Knodels submitted the winning bid for the yet to be built residence.
