Redfield golfers open play at 2023 Class A tourney

RAPID CITY — Senior Jaxen Campbell led Redfield during the opening round of the Class A State Golf Tournament, which was held Monday at Hart Ranch Golf Course.

Campbell turned in a 93, which places him in a tie for the 63rd spot heading into the final round of the 36-hole event.

Tristen O’Daniel opened with a 100 through the first 18 holes for the Pheasant to share spot No. 86.

Rounding out the lineup for Redfield were senior Seth Domke at 101, which places him in a tie for 88th, and senior Kevin Weller at 114, which puts him 97th heading into the final round.

Anthony Lanham of West Central holds a five-stroke lead after the first 18 holes of play with a 68. Dakota Munger of Chamberlain and Cooper Girard of Vermillion share the second spot with scores of 73.

Jonathan Deboer of Milbank, Carter Langle of Elk Point-Jefferson and Vincent VanLiere of St. Thomas More all carded scores of 75 to finish tied for fourth.

Vermillion has a solid grasp on the top spot in the team standings after the first day of competition. It holds a 16-stroke lead over Tea Area. Chamberlain is a third, followed by Dakota Valley and Aberdeen Roncalli.

Redfield is 14th in the team standings.

The final 18 holes of competition will be played today.
