SIOUX FALLS –– The Huron Tigers had a double-digit second-half lead, but a furious comeback in the fourth quarter by the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Rough Riders led to a 60-58 victory for Roosevelt Tuesday in Sioux Falls.
The Tigers started slow and the Rough Riders led 13-11 after the first quarter, but long-range shooting picked up in the second quarter, and Huron used a 17-11 quarter to push the lead out to 28-24 at half.
Huron jumped out quickly in the third quarter and controlled the tempo throughout the quarter and into the early fourth quarter, leading 48-40 at the quarter break and by as many as 12, but the Rough Riders mounted a comeback as the Huron long-range shooting went cold.
Sioux Falls Roosevelt took a 60-58 lead on a late drive and Huron had the ball under their own hoop with 1.9 seconds left for a chance to hit a two-point shot for the tie or a three for the win. Blake Ellwein got a look at the top of the key, but it was off and the Rough Riders came away with the victory.
The Rough Riders move to 5-9 as two players came off the bench to lead the scoring with 11 points apiece, Isaiah Garang and Bryson Skogsberg.
Huron falls to 8-5 despite 18 points from Blake Ellwein. Bubba Peterson hit a pair of threes in the third quarter and finished with 12 points for the Tigers.
The Tigers will host Spearfish and Sturgis Friday and Saturday.
