HURON — Huron High School graduate Kenedee Rowen has been selected to represent Team USA in the 2023 North American Regional Powerlifting Championships, which will be held Aug. 7-12 in Georgetown, Cayman Islands.

“It’s an incredible achievement being selected to represent Team USA,” said Andrew Priebe, who has coached Rowen during her high school powerlifting career. “Although powerlifting is a part of the World Games (an International Olympic Committee ran event) it is not yet in the Olympic Games. So, being named to a World Team is the equivalent of making an Olympic team for any of the sports that are currently in the Olympic roster of events.

“Being chosen to represent Team USA in the North American Championships is one of the levels of Team USA and most lifters go their entire careers without being able to represent their countries,” he said. “It is truly reserved for the best America has to offer!”

Rowen will compete on Aug. 9 in the 138.8-pound sub junior class (under-20). She earned a shot at making the team during the Powerlifting Raw Nationals, which was held June 2 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The North American Regional Powerlifting Championships will feature 125 of the top lifters from 12 North American countries. The event will be livestreamed on the IPF YouTube Channel.

Rowen, who has won multiple state titles, will continue her powerlifting career at the Midland University in Fremont, Neb., in the fall.
