HHS Math
We just started the second semester of algebra 1. Before we left for vacation our topic was linear equations. We are continuing with that topic and looking at linear relationships. Example: if you are saving up to buy a car, you start with a deposit of $500 and then add $100 / week how long would it take to purchase a car for $2,300?
After this we will look at linear inequalities. This is where something is not equal. We will be using greater than and less than to solve and graph.
The rest of this semester will include exponential growth and decay, systems of equations, exponent rules and polynomials.
The great thing about semesters at the high school is the students start with a clean slate right now. Their grades start over and they have a chance to pass this semester even if the first semester didn’t go as planned. Attendance is so very important.
Please encourage this at home so they can have the best chance for success.

Madison 2-3 Center
The halls of Madison 2-3 Center and the classrooms of Mrs. Hovde, Ms. Kopfmann, and Ms. Shoultz are always buzzing with energy as the three third-grade classes embark on exciting educational adventures this year! From hands-on projects to innovative teaching methods, our third graders are diving into learning with enthusiasm and creativity.
• A World of Reading: Reading has taken center stage in our classrooms, with students eagerly flipping pages and exploring new books. Each student has been working hard to meet their reading goals, earning snacks and special prizes as they progress. In September, the reading program kicked off with an exciting partnership with Taco Johns of Huron, encouraging students to read five books a month to earn a free kids’ meal. It’s been a tasty motivation for these young readers!
• Building Strong Foundations in Math: Multiplication mastery is in full swing as students work toward fluency with their facts. With baseline assessments complete, students are rising to the challenge of improving their skills, celebrating every small success along the way. Hands-on activities, games, and friendly competitions have helped make math not only educational but also a lot of fun!
• Creative Projects Bring Learning to Life: Creativity has been at the heart of several classroom projects. Earlier this year, our students collaborated to build a James and the Giant Peach scarecrow display for the Huron Public Library/Lions Club contest, winning the hearts of many in the community. Currently, the classrooms are finishing up the 12 Days of Christmas event, where students explore holiday traditions from around the world while celebrating themes like Santa, stockings, and Christmas trees. Project Lead the Way enhances hands-on excitement as students actively engage in completing various modules from the interactive science curriculum.
• A Strong Community Focus: Third grade is not just about academics; it’s about building community and fostering growth. Teachers and students alike have focused on character development, from improving organizational skills and focus to building self-confidence and teamwork. Students have been encouraged to embrace challenges, knowing that mistakes are part of learning.
With all this excitement, there’s no doubt these students are making memories while learning valuable skills they’ll carry with them far beyond third grade. Keep an eye on our classrooms, there’s always something inspiring happening!
