HMS math
Students in eighth grade Math classes have been working on how to solve linear equations. They will be able to find slope (unit rate) from graphs, tables, and equations to represent proportional situations. Knowing the slope of a line is an important skill so they can better understand linear functions. The students will review the Pythagorean Theorem for the month of March and then take their SLO posttest.

The eighth grade Algebra class has just finished up the chapter on exponent function, they will start learning about polynomials. Students will be able to add, subtract and multiply several different kinds of polynomials.

All eighth grades students use their chrome books every day to enhance their learning. They can keep up with their assignments on Google Classroom and check for their current grade on Infinite Campus. Those of us in the math and English department use an online program called IXL. This program can give students isolated assistance on specific standards in math and English. The eighth grade team uses several different websites and apps to give students more opportunities to learn.

HMS science

The eighth grade science students just wrapped up a unit on chemistry where they learned about balancing chemical equations and chemical reactions. Now, they are working on calculating the speed and acceleration of objects.

In March, the girls will have an opportunity to attend the annual Women in Science conference held on the campus of NSU in Aberdeen. In April, all students will have the opportunity to participate in the annual HMS science fair.
