The Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Auxiliary recently honored Donna Schroeder as the Volunteer of the Quarter, according to Bob Eickhoff, HRMC Auxiliary President.

Schroeder joined the Auxiliary in March of 2009 and has contributed over 1,700 hours of her time to serving others as a volunteer at the hospital information desk. She is the fourth longest-serving active member.  

Schroeder is the mother of two children, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include quilting, collecting recipes, playing poker, and above all, babysitting her great-granddaughter.

She is also involved with a widow and widower’s group that meets monthly for a meal and fellowship. She began volunteering after the passing of her husband through encouragement from her friends.

“I love to talk to the people that come and go. I like the feeling of helping others,” remarked Schroeder. “I just truly enjoy it!”

At the presentation attended by family, friends, fellow volunteers, and hospital team members, HRMC Auxiliary President Bob Eickhoff expressed his gratitude to Schroeder for her years of dedication and the compassion and care she has consistently given throughout the years.

HRMC Auxiliary volunteers assist visitors at the information desks, offer assistance and refreshments in the hospital radiology waiting area, and deliver floral arrangements and newspapers to patients.

The Auxiliary provides scholarships for students pursuing careers in health care and contributes to various projects at the hospital with funds raised through gift shop/candy counter sales and membership dues.

The purpose of the Auxiliary is to promote and advance the welfare of HRMC by rendering service to patients and assisting with charitable projects.

The group is always looking for more volunteers to substitute or fill a four-hour weekly shift.
