Scotties, Battlers win at Miller Invitational

MILLER — The Philip Scotties won the boys’ division and the Potter County Battlers took the girls’ title Monday at the Miller Invitational cross country meet, held at the Miller Country Club.

Philip had 16 points to take the boys’ team title, followed by Northwestern with 60 and North Central with 88 points.

Highmore was the top finishing Heartland team, in fifth place with 105 points.

Alex Schumacher of Miller won the boys’ individual title, finishing in 16:48.61, amd edging Wakely Burns of Philip.

Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County was third and Pierce Baumberger of Miller was fourth.

Other Heartland finishers in the top-30 included Isaiah Gortmaker in 13th, Jimmy Burma of Sunshine Bible Academy in 24th and Brooks McPeak of Highmore in 28th.

Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern easily won the girls’ division, in a time of 19:26.77. followed by Heidi Olson of Mobridge-Pollock and Autumn Fallis of Highmore.
