HURON — Candidate for District 22 S.D. Senate seat, Jim Schmidt, found he had unanimous support from Beadle County Democrats to deny Summit Pipeline the right to confiscate South Dakota land for a carbon CO2 pipeline by eminent domain. County Commissioners have been putting up a good fight, but the S.D. Legislature passed a bill that would allow it.
Schmidt wants to go to Pierre as District 22 Senator and pledges to vote to Repeal Referred Law 21. Current District 22 legislators voted for the bill. The issue has bipartisan support from landowners and local governments to deny Summit the ability to seize land and property for their own profit.
Schmidt was born on a farm near Wessington Springs and was raised with the values of hard work and community involvement. He joined the service and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He currently lives in Huron.
He believes legislators, when elected, must vote for the will of the people and pledges to do his best for the voters of District 22 and for the state of South Dakota.
Beadle County Democrats also had a chance to meet with some other District 22 Democrats from Spink County. They brought greetings from their county and reported on the work they have been doing to deny Summit Pipeline the ability to use eminent domain to seize farmland.
The Beadle County Democratic Forum meets the fourth Monday of every month.
