HURON — Authorities have arrested a 15-year-old female in connection with a fatal shooting that took place May 9 in Huron.
Brookings County States Attorney Daniel Nelson confirmed that a female was arrested Wednesday in the shooting death of 41-year-old Nikki Klich of Huron.
Nelson is handling the prosecution of the case, as Alyssa Horn, the newly appointed Beadle County Deputy States Attorney and lone candidate for the office, has a possible conflict of interest in the case.
Previously, a 15-year-old male had been arrested and has appeared in court on charges.
Nelson said that all proceedings will take place in Huron, beginning with a status hearing in early July.
He said that he intends to have the cases transferred from juvenile to adult court, noting that the process may yet take significant time.
