Aberdeen sweeps Tuesday doubleheader

HURON — The Aberdeen Smittys 14U team hit the ball around the park, scoring 35 runs in a two-game sweep over the Huron 13/14U Tigers at Klock Field on Tuesday.
Aberdeen had a 10-run explosion in the third inning that took advantage of multiple Huron errors on the way to a 13-1 victory over Huron in the opener.
Colt Culver opened the game on the mound for Huron, going 2 1/3 innings, allowing 10 runs on seven hits and five walks. Noah Koops finished out the game, allowing three runs over 1 2/3 innings on four hits, striking out one.
Quincey Rashaad and Culver each had a single and a walk. Each also stole a base.
Huron jumped on the board first with an 8-run first inning, but Aberdeen scored multiple runs in four of five innings, including 16 runs over the final two innings to take the second game by the score of 22-14.
Josh Gilbert opened the game on the bump for Huron, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing 18 runs, though just seven were earned. He allowed 16 hits and one walk while striking out four.
Jackson Ford came in relief, but did not record an out, allowing four runs on two hits and four walks. Ryker Shelton got out of the fifth inning.
Parker Bischoff had four hits, including one double to lead the Huron offense. Jayden Ryman took two walks, was hit by pitch twice, and stole a base. Ernest Wallette had a pair of singles, a walk, and stole a base.
Gilbert had a triple and a single while Colin Hogle had a pair of singles and stole a base.
Nate Gray had a walk, was hit by pitch, and stole a base. Culver stole three bases. Rashaad and Shelton each added a steal.
The 13/14U team (3-7-1) will participate in the Cubby’s Classic this weekend in Brookings.
