WOLSEY –– The second-seeded Wessington Springs Spartans, who are receiving votes in the Class “B” poll, trailed after one quarter but exploded in the second quarter and never looked back in a 69-35 victory over the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots Friday in opening round action at the 281 Conference boys’ tournament in Wolsey.
Wessington Springs (7-1) extends its win streak to six games with four players in double figures. Karter Mebius and Colby Flowers each had 16 points to lead the Spartans while Branden Flowers had 13 and Grady Gran had 12.
Patrick Maynard and Aiden Frankenstein led Hitchcock/Tulare (2-6) with 12 points apiece.
The Spartans will face third-seeded Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Monday in semifinal action while the Patriots will square off with Highmore-Harrold in consolation play.

Top seeded Wolsey-Wessington cruised to a 77-29 victory over Sunshine Bible Academy while Iroquois/Lake Preston and James Valley Christian had the battle of the day, with the Sharks coming away with a 68-64 victory.
Wessington Springs defeated Hitchcock-Tulare 69-35 and Sanborn Central/Woonsocket won over Highmore-Harrold 62-33.
Wolsey-Wessington will play Iroquois/Lake Preston and Wessington Springs will face Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Monday at Huron Arena in championship semifinal action. Sunshine Bible Academy will face James Valley Christian and Hitchcock-Tulare and Highmore-Harrold will battle in consolation action Monday at the JVC gym.

Hitchcock-Tulare 47, Iroquois/Lake Preston 34
WOLSEY — Third-seeded Hitchcock-Tulare opened the 281 Conference Tournament with a 47-34 victory against sixth-seeded Iroquois/Lake Preston on Thursday.
The Lady Patriots led 13-4 at the end of the opening quarter and never trailed after that point.
Katelyn Schroeder had 17 points, including a 5-of-6 effort from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to lead Hitchcock-Tulare, which is now 4-4. Emmerie Arthurs also reached double figures with 14 points, while Gracyn Bixler added six points.
Hadlee Holt led Iroquois/Lake Preston, which is now 2-8, with 14 points. Kera Dubro added nine points.
Hitchcock-Tulare will face second-seeded Highmore-Harrold in the semifinals 6:30 p.m. Monday at Huron Arena. Iroquois/Lake Preston will play No. 7 Sunshine Bible Academy in the consolation semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the JVC gym.
