HURON — For the first time since late August, the state dipped below 2,000 active cases of COVID-19 in the weekend numbers reported by the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH).
The state added 286 new positive cases, 338 new recovered cases, and 10 new deaths over the weekend. That dropped the active cases in the state to 1,966.
The last time the state was under 2,000 active cases was August 26, when active cases were 1,793 before taking a jump over 2,000 the following day and not coming back down since.
Beadle County tied its high of the year for new positive cases in a week with 33 new positive cases over the previous week. The same number was reached the first two weeks of the new year but hadn’t been reached since.
Beadle added four new positive cases over the weekend along with seven new recovered cases. This dropped the active virus cases in the county to 74.
The Heartland Region noted 11 new positive cases and 16 new recovered cases in the DOH numbers over the weekend. That allowed the region’s active cases to drop to 133.
