HURON — The Huron Tiger gymnasts were back on the mat for their second competition in three days Thursday night, as they hosted the Chamberlain Cubs and Pierre Governors at the Tiger Activity Center.
The Governors emerged with the win in the competitive meet, amassing 133.3 points, edging Chamberlain, which had 125.95. Huron finished with 118.85, a nearly nine-point improvement over the team score it posted Tuesday night.
Chamberlain’s Amelia Jones won two events and tied for a third, on her way to a top finish in the All-Around totals, with 35.75 points. Pierre’s Navaeh Karber ended with 34.55 and Kylah Biggins of Chamberlain was third with 34.45.
Huron’s top finisher in the All-Around was Eastyn Eichstadt, with a total of 31.05, while teammate Cameron Ruth ended with 30.4.
Jones claimed wins in the Vault (9.150) and Floor Exercise (9.35), and tied with Pierre’s KaCee Wilson on Uneven Parallel Bars, as both gymnasts garnered scores of 8.25.
Karber won the Balance Beam with a score of 9.2.
The Tiger girls had good nights on all the apparatus Thursday. Cameron Ruth scored an 8.7 on the Vault, putting her in third place at the meet. Eichstadt finished sixth with an 8.4 and Ellie Puterbaugh scored an 8.1, good for ninth.
Ruth was also the top scoring Tiger in the Bars, as her 7.45 placed her sixth, while Eichstadt finished ninth with a 7.05.
On the Balance Beam, Puterbaugh led the way for Huron with a 7.95 to finish sixth and Alivia Cunard took 10th with a 7.1.
In Floor Exercise, Eichstadt finished eighth with an 8.1, one spot ahead of Cunard, who scored 8.05.
Huron travels to Pierre on Saturday.
