SIOUX FALLS — The Huron Tigers emerged with a singles championship and a doubles championship en route to a fourth place finish in the Class A State Tennis Tournament, which concluded Tuesday.

Sioux Falls Christian claimed the team title with 448.5 points, while St. Thomas More was second at 416. Rounding out the top five in the 11-team event were Rapid City Christian at 392.5, Huron at 358.5 and Vermillion at 278.

Two of the five semifinalists for Huron were able to advance to title matches.

Paw Kler Moo, who pulled an upset to reach the semifinals at No. 5 singles as the sixth seed, defeated seventh-seed Breanna Tedrow of Pierre 6-2, 6-4 to reach the title match.

Moo then won 10-6 against top-seeded Elsje VanderDussen of Sioux Falls Christian to emerge as the champion.

Second-seeded Say Glay used back-to-back 6-0 set wins to defeat third-seeded Amelia Pederson of Milbank in the semifinals of the fourth flight singles. She then faced top-seeded Jade TenHaken of Sioux Falls Christian in the championship match and suffered a 10-2 setback to finish second.

The other three semifinalists for the Tigers — Lizzy Heinen at No. 2, Ann Hoek at No. 3 and Madeline Kleinsasser at No. 6 — suffered setbacks in their opening matches Tuesday and all came away with fourth-place finishes after coming up short in their respective third-place matches.

Glay and Moo combined for a championship run for Huron in No. 3 doubles. As the No. 2 seed, they defeated third-seeded Sioux Falls Christian 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals and then won 10-5 against fourth-seeded St. Thomas More in the championship match.

AnneClaire Rubish and Heinen combined to finish third for the Tigers in No. 1 singles after entering the tournament as the fifth seed. They defeated Vermillion 8-3 in the third-place match.

Huron’s No. 2 doubles team of Hoek and Kleinsasser opened play with an 8-7 (1) win against seventh-seeded Milbank on Tuesday in the fifth-place semifinals. They then won 8-3 against fifth-seeded Vermillion to claim the fifth spot.
