Tigers pin Bucks, Gazelles in ESD match

Posted

HURON — The Huron Tiger boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams posted lopsided victories Friday night in a home dual with Yankton, as the Tiger boys derailed the Bucks 60-18 and the girls’ came away with a 30-15 win over the Gazelles.

Boys
The Tigers won the first five matches - three by pinfall - jumping out to a quick lead over the Bucks and kept the pressure up throughout the match en route to the victory.

Carter Nelson got things rolling quickly in the 106-pound opening match with a pin of Damian Janish in 2:52.

“Carter did a good job of fighting back and getting the win tonight,” said HHS coach Matt Goth. “He got behind but battled back.”

Ryder Siedschlag scored a 16-8 major decision for Huron over Brooks DeLozier at 113, then brother Crayton Siedschlag stuck Yankton’s Devon Coke in 1:23. “Both of the Siedschlag boys dominated their matches tonight,” Goth noted.

Brady Meyer kept it rolling for the Tigers with a win by fall over Caden Janssen at 126 pounds. Meyer earned the pin in 1:16.

As the dual moved into the middle weights, Lah Doh Soe earned a 10-4 decision over Joelton Remnitz-Hahn of Yankton in a tough match, then Moses Gross dispatched Bode Thurman by a 20-2 technical fall in 2:34.

Gross scored at will against the Yankton wrestler, who had an early opportunity against the top ranked 150-pounder in the state, by Gross recovered, consistently getting take downs, scoring back points, then releasing Thurman to do it all over again.

At 165 pounds, sophomore TJ Lien pinned senior Jackson Slowey of Yankton in 3:47, with a solid showing after getting back into action following injury this fall.

Shar Ler Moo Ser took control early and dominated his match with CorBin Sayler of Yankton, before pinning the Bucks’ grappler in 1:24 and Bryan Ramirez was forced to the third period before putting together the right combination of moves that resulted in a pinfall win over Peyton Eustace in 5:02.

Joshua Sho won by forfeit for the Tigers at 132 to round out the scoring.

“It was good to go out and get some wins - with a lot of pins - in front of the home crowd tonight,” Goth said after the match. “We had good matches and wrestled aggressively throughout the lineup.”

Girls
The Huron Tiger girls’ wrestling team took advantage of five wins by forfeit to collect a 30-15 win over the Yankton Gazelles in an ESD match at Huron Arena.

Naw Htoo Ywe (100 lbs), Chalie Sah (107), Kmui Paw, Paola Fernandez (185) and Kaitlyn Florey (250) all collected wins for the Tigers Friday night.

Both Huron teams are back in action today at the 14-team River City Rumble in Chamberlain, before returning to Huron Arena Jan. 26 to host the Pierre Governors.

Both Goth and girls’ coach Dru Strand emphasized the positive aspect of wrestling in Chamberlain, noting that the tournament will feature several teams that are the same regional as the Tigers, but that for many reasons Huron doesn’t see on the mats much during most of the season.

Huron’s Aleshka Oyola-Rodriguez wrestles Yankton’s Monica Massey in a 114-pound match on Friday at Huron Arena.
