Huron boys soccer grabs win Saturday

HURON — Huron used a pair of goals from Biat Say to get past Sturgis 2-1 on Saturday at Tiger Stadium.
The victory boosts the Tigers’ record to 2-1.
“It was another physical game today,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “We came out and moved the ball well again but couldn’t finish on the offensive end at times. Our reserve players really stepped up today and helped us out.”
Say had the lone goal of the opening half for the Tigers on a penalty kick during the eight minute.
Huron added to its advantage early in the second half, as Say found the net on a pass from his brother, Say Heh, during the 44th minute.
The Scoopers avoided the shutout with a goal on a penalty kick just three minutes later.
Micah Larson recorded five saves in the net for Huron.
The Tigers also collected a 4-2 win the junior varsity game against Sturgis.
Elder Morales earned a hat trick with three goals for Huron, while Pah Ra Sai had the other goal.
Matthew Thin was credited with an assists for the Tigers, while Jaxon Andru tallied five saves.
Huron returns to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m., game at Sioux Falls Christian.
Girls
Sturgis emerged with a 6-0 victory against the Huron girls’ soccer team on Saturday.
Hkee Hser and Ya Tha Na shared goalkeeping duties for the Tigers and combined for 19 saves.
The Scoopers also won 9-1 in the girls’ junior varsity game.
Aleshka Oyola-Rodriguez had the goal for Huron, with Araceli Orozco-Castaneda earning the assist.
“Both varsity and JV teams are improving with each game they play,” Huron coach Teresa Peterson said.
The Tigers will host Garretson in a 6 p.m., game Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.
