HURON — Timothy John Schwartz, age 74, of Huron, passed away Sunday. June 9, 2024, at Huron Regional Medical Center, with his wife and daughters by his side.
His funeral service is 11 a.m., Friday, June 14, at the American Lutheran Church in Huron. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Iroquois. His service will be livestreamed.
Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m., Thursday, June 13, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with family present from 4 to 6 p.m.
Timothy John Schwartz was born September 7, 1949, to Leroy and Lila (Welch) Schwartz in Huron. He was raised in the Bancroft area, and was a part of the last graduating Bancroft class in 1968. Later that year, he joined the United States Navy, and served proudly on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise as an Aircraft Director until 1974.
He met his wife, Leila Owens, and they were married on April 19, 1974. To this union were born two daughters; Traci and Brittni. The family has resided in Huron their entire lives, where Tim worked as a supervisor in Huron’s sanitation department for 37 dedicated years.
He enjoyed the outdoors, often camping and fishing. He liked to work in his garage and around the house. In his later years, he enjoyed going out for coffee with friends and taking long drives. What he enjoyed most was the time he spent with his family, and never missed his kids or grandkids’ events.
Tim is survived by his wife, Leila; two daughters, Traci (Scott) Ross and Brittni (Bret) Karlsen; five grandchildren, Kaylei (Zach) Wolkow, Emma Ross, Hattie Ross, Bronson Karlsen, and Bree Karlsen; his sister-in-law, Judy Schwartz; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Schwartz, step-mom Shirley Schwartz, and mother Lila Walker; three brothers, Tyler, Tony and Todd Schwartz; and his sister-in-law, Tracey Schwartz.
