Van Berkum, Cardona elected to Huron School Board, Robish elected as Mayor

HURON — Incumbent Tim Van Berkum was re-elected to his seat on the Huron School Board in balloting held Tuesday. Van Berkum will be joined on the school board by Ray Cardona, who will replace Kristi Glanzer, who chose not to seek re-election.

Cardona ended the race with 1,326 votes, garnering 41% of the total 3,231 votes cast for school board. Van Berkum tallied 1,260 or 39%. Challenger Brittany Layher ended the race with 645 votes (20%).

In the race for Huron Mayor, veteran city commissioner Mark Robish defeated current city commissioners Drew Weinreis and Bryan Smith to move into the seat being vacated by current Mayor Gary Harrington, who chose not to seek re-election.

Robish tallied 752 of the 1,719 votes cast for mayor, or 44% of votes, while Weinreis ended with 494 (29%) and Smith totaled 473 (28%).

The newly elected officials will take the oath of office at an upcoming meeting of their respective boards.
