FILER, Idaho — Walter T. Ranft, 86, of Filer, Idaho, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, May 14, 2024

Walter was born August 24, 1937, in Beadle County, to Walter L. Ranft and Elizabeth (Marco) Ranft. Walt grew up in central South Dakota with two sisters and four brothers.

He served in the Army from 1955 until 1958. After returning home, in 1960 he married Rose Daphnia (Miles) Ranft.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of nearly 64 years and his three daughters; Karla Jean Long (Paul) of Twin Falls, Idaho, Karen Louise Lohnes (Verlyn) of Mayfield, Utah, and Kathy Marie Dahl (Norman) of Safford, Ariz. Also, he is survived by two brothers, William Ranft of South Dakota and Leroy Ranft of Arkansas, one sister, Caroline Foreman of South Dakota, 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Ramona Orr of Wisconsin, and two brothers, Robert Ranft and James Ranft both of South Dakota.

He is to be cremated, with a private family service later in South Dakota.
