Rustlers second at Milbank Invite
MILBANK — The Miller Rustlers dropped only one set as the stormed through the “Maroon” division of the Milbank Invitational volleyball tournament on Saturday, but dropped a tough 2-1 match to Sioux Valley in the championships. Set scores for Sioux Valley were 25-23, 15-25 and 25-22.
Jaden Werdell recorded 11 kills and two blocks to pace the Rustlers in the title game, while setter Tyra Gates handed out 28 assists, had a block and added 11 digs. Heather Resel and Aleah Schlechter each had a pair of aces and Abbi Blake had 12 digs and a block.
Ashley Bjerke had 12 kills, two aces and 16 assists for Sioux Valley, which evened its record at 14-14 in the tournament.
Miller falls to 17-10 and travels to Wolsey-Wessington tonight.
DVC Tournament
ARLINGTON and WHITE — The home teams - the Deubrook Dolphins and the Arlington Cardinals - both went 4-0 in the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament, held in both White and Arlington on Saturday.
The Dolphins knocked off Oldham-Ramona/Rutland, Lake Preston and Dell Rapids St. Mary both by 2-0 scores and slipped past Estelline/Hendricks 2-1 in games held in White.
In Arlington, the homestanding Cardinals downed Elkton-Lake Benton 2-1, then dispatched De Smet, Castlewood and Colman-Egan by 2-0 shutouts.
De Smet went 0-4 over the weekend, dropping 2-0 matches to Colman-Egan, Arlington, Elkton/Lake Benton and then a 2-1 decision to Castlewood.
De Smet, now 11-12, hosts Castlewood Tuesday.
