Wessington Springs boys win title at DRSM event

DELL RAPIDS — Blake Larson led the Wessington Springs Spartans to the boys’ title, while Jadyn McDonald did the same for the Chester Area Flyers in the girls’ division Tuesday, at the St. Mary Golf Invitational golf tournament, at the Dells Rocky Run Golf Course.

Larson fired a four-over par 75 to claim medalist honors for the Spartans, who ended with a team total of 251, 12 strokes better than runner up Hanson in the boy’s competition. Hanson’s Esten Schlimgen was second with an 80, while Taylor Kriech of Colman-Egan carded an 82 for third place.

Wessington Springs golfers Blake Miller (85) and Brock Krueger (87), were fifth and seventh, respectively on the day to round out the Spartans’ scoring, while Luke Larson shot an 89 and JD Thompson shot 94 for Wessington Springs. Other Wessington Springs scores included a 95 from Heyns Bothma.

The De Smet Bulldogs had a team total of 291 to finish seventh in the boys’ race. They were led by Max Kees’ 95, in 22nd place, while Danny Sudenga shot 96 and Tom Augenbaugh carded a 100.

McDonald took the girls’ medalist honors with an 89 for the Flyers. As a team Chester Area ended with a score of 280. Dell Rapids St. Mary was second with a 299 and Deubook was third with a 320.

De Smet was the lone Heartland entry in the girls’ competition, but failed to field a full team. The Bulldogs got a 103 from Brooke Jennings and a 105 from Harper Anderson.
