Spartans earn tourney berth with SoDak 16 win

FORT PIERRE –– The Wessington Springs Spartans, seeded fourth in the SoDak 16, jumped out early on the Timber Lake Panthers and never looked back on the way to a 75-49 victory.
Karter Mebius led the Spartans, 21-2, with 25 points. Colby Flowers added 19 points.
Ryder Michalek put in 10 points for Wessington Springs and grabbed nine rebounds.
Kenton Hung led Timber Lake (15-8) with 12 points. Treyden Beer added 10 points.
The Spartans will open the State B tournament on March 20 in Aberdeen as the fourth seed, facing the Wall Eagles in the first round at 1:45 p.m.
In the other opening round matchups, No. 8 Lyman plays No. 1 Castlewood at noon; No. 2 St. Mary’s plays Aberdeen Christian at 6 p.m. and No. 3 Viborg-Hurley plays No. 6 Freeman at 7:45 p.m.
