Willow Lake FFA places first in state

Posted

The Willow Lake FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team and Conduct of Chapter Meetings Teams competed in the state Leadership Development Events which were held Dec. 3-4 in Rapid City.

Both the Parliamentary Procedure event and the Conduct of Chapter Meetings event allows teams to showcase their abilities in conducting a meeting and their knowledge of Parliamentary Procedure.

The Conduct of Chapter Meetings team consists of younger FFA members and the Parliamentary Procedure team generally consists of older, more experienced FFA members.

Both events consist of taking a test on a variety of Parliamentary Procedure topics, presenting a live demonstration of how to conduct a proper and formal meeting, and answering oral questions from a panel of judges.

Judges score the team members on their abilities to properly propose a motion, debate the motion, and use other subsidiary, incidental, or privileged motions to carry out certain aspects or details of a meeting.

The Parliamentary Procedure Team placed first out of 15 teams that competed and will represent South Dakota in the National FFA Parliamentary Procedure Event held during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

Emma Peterson was selected by the judges as an All-Star Parliamentary Procedure team member. She was one of six members selected from a total of 90 individuals in the event.

The Conduct of Chapter Meetings team placed sixth out of 16 teams at the state event. Both teams qualified to participate in the State Event by placing first in their event at the District 2 Leadership Development Event in Brookings on Nov. 20.
