HURON — A conversation with a board member of the Huron Community Foundation sparked an underlying desire to better the community of Wolsey, and to that end, the Wolsey Community Foundation (WCF) was created.
In the initial release by the organization, the stated goal of WCF is to sponsor projects such as city park improvements, city pool improvements, school projects, senior center projects, and other community-needed projects. The first award by the organization was a $4,000 check toward the ambulance fund in Wolsey.
The initial goal is to raise $100,000 into the fund, which will then trigger a matching grant from the South Dakota Community Foundation of $25,000, allowing the WCF to gain thousands of dollars in interest each year to fund projects throughout the town.
“It will be a lasting opportunity to do much good for our community for many decades to come,” stated board member Robert McGillvrey.
Fellow board members include Ted Haeder, Melva Beals, Jim Babcock, and Donna Haeder.
“We formed the Wolsey Community Foundation as a way to give back to the community,” Ted Haeder expressed. “Our goal is to establish a fund that can help fund projects that will make Wolsey a great place to live, work, and play.”
Once the WCF meets its initial $100,000 funding goal, a lasting tribute will be built somewhere in the Wolsey community to honor those who have supported the foundation.
