Wolsey-Wessington goes 4-0 during Warbird Invite

WOLSEY – The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds swept four matches Saturday at the Warbird Invite held at Wolsey.

The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks and Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders were also part of the eight-team field.

The Lady ‘Birds opened the day against SBA, winning 25-7 and 25-10. Kailynn Dorris was 23 of 24 serving with six aces. Shae Uttecht was 11 of 11 from the service line with three aces. Samara Clemente led W-W with four kills, three digs, and a block.

The Lady Warbirds then defeated the Langford Area Lions 25-9 and 25-7.

Dorris led the team with 10 kills. Payton Kemnitz was 9 of 9 serving with three aces while also pacing the Warbird attack with 13 assists on 25 of 25 setting. Baylean Moen led the Lions with three kills.

Wolsey-Wessington swept the Leola-Frederick Area Titans 25-16 and 25-22.

Dorris led W-W with 10 kills while also recording two aces on 10 of 11 serving. Kendal Uttecht was 20 of 20 serving, dished out 14 assists on 35 of 35 setting, and led the team with 14 digs. Sofia Losume recorded five kills and a pair of blocks for the Titans.

The Lady Warbirds struggled to a 26-24, 25-23 win in the final match of the day against the Sioux Falls Lutheran Eagles.

Dorris had 11 kills to lead W-W. Kemnitz led the defense with 15 digs and also delivered 15 assists on 39 of 39 setting. The Eagles were led by Tatum Beckman with 13 kills.

Sunshine Bible also fell to Langford 25-13 and 25-18, to Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 25-9 and 25-7, and lost to Marty, but scores were not available. The Crusaders completed the day 0-4 to fall to 0-7 on the season.

The Blackhawks opened the day with a 2-1 victory over Langford, 25-15, 15-25, and 25-20.

Kenna Ochsner led SCW with eight kills. Kam Ochsner had seven kills, two service aces, and 14 digs. Alex Darling was 16 of 16 serving with four aces for Langford while Bayleann Moen had 22 digs.

Leola-Frederick Area swept the Blackhawks 25-16 and 25-17. Kenna Ochsner led SCW with seven kills and had 10 digs. Kenzie Schley dished out 10 assists.

The Blackhawks defeated SBA 25-9 and 25-7. Liz Boschee hit for seven kills while Kam Ochsner had four service aces, eight digs, and two blocks for the Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks dropped their final match of the day against Sioux Falls Lutheran 18-25, 25-23, and 12-25.

The Blackhawks were led by Liz Boschee with seven kills and three blocks. Kenzie Schley paced the SCW offense with 15 assists while also posting 11 digs.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket went 2-2 on the day to move to 5-6 on the year.

Wolsey-Wessington (7-2) hosts Aberdeen Christian on Thursday. The Crusaders host Crow Creek Tuesday while the Blackhawks travel to Wessington Springs Tuesday.
