State runner-up Warbirds place four on all-state squad

HURON — The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds finished their season in the Class 9A State Football Championship in the DakotaDome. On Monday, four Warbirds were recognized as All-State performers.
Junior quarterback Caleb Richmond was selected after having an impressive dual-threat season, throwing for 2,017 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. On the ground, Richmond carried the ball 136 times for 1,344 yards and another 19 scores. With one more season left in his career, Richmond has thrown for 3,337 yards and 39 touchdowns while running for 1,931 yards and 27 scores.
Brother Moshe Richmond, a senior, was selected as a receiver after a season with 84 receptions, 1,061 yards, and 11 touchdowns through the air. Richmond also ran 68 times for 446 yards and eight touchdowns.
In his Warbird career, Richmond caught 144 balls for 2,030 yards and 19 touchdowns while rushing for 635 yards and 11 scores.
Senior Colin Hughes was selected as the halfback/fullback on the offense. He finished the season with 50 catches for 541 yards and three touchdowns.
Peyton Rainford was mentioned twice, earning All-State first time on special teams and being noted as an honorable mention for his offensive exploits. On the offensive side of the ball, Rainford ran for 1,002 yards and 14 touchdowns, bringing his career totals to 1,359 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground. He caught 20 balls for 268 yards and six touchdowns.
State champion Howard placed three on the All-State offense and two on the All-State defense as running back Tate Miller, tight end Luke Koepsell, lineman Calvin Halverson, linebacker Weston Remmers, and defensive back Carson Hinker were selected, all seniors.
Filling out the All-State offense were Harding County/Bison senior running back Rylee Veal, Dupree senior running back Bradyn Terveen-Smith, Centerville senior wide receiver Miles Eide, Wall junior offensive lineman Riley Kerner, Warner senior lineman Preston Cavalier, Philip senior lineman Jensen Fitch, and two senior athletes in Wall’s Kale Crowser and Estelline-Hendricks’ Wyat James.
The defensive selections included Harding County/Bison senior lineman Nayati Bickerdyke, Ipswich senior lineman Justin Rohrbach, Estelline-Hendricks senior lineman Carson Reitz, Lemmon/McIntosh junior lineman Eli Peterson, Wall senior linebacker Jace Blasius, Castlewood senior linebacker Camron Eng, Lemmon/McIntosh senior linebacker Blair Harn, Alcester-Hudson senior defensive back Ethan Bovill, and Warner junior back Jesiah Baum. Dupree senior Roper Eaton was selected as a special teams player.
Joining Rainford on the honorable mention list were Max Kulesa, Kyle Hettich, and Justin Rohrbach of Ipswich, Tanner Volmer, Dawson Handcock, and Brayden Lange of Wall, Chays Mansfield, Alec Mikkelsen, and Devon Fischbach of Warner, Alec Austin of Centerville, Tyce Gropper of Phillip, Matthew McAninch of Estelline-Hendricks, Cole Kieffer of Lyman, Noah Little Wounded of Dupree, and Cole Ducheneaux of Timber Lake.
Howard tight end Koepsell was named as the player of the year.
