281 Conference volleyball tourney held Saturday

HURON — The Wolsey-Wessington Lady Warbirds did not drop a set en route to winning the 281 Conference volleyball tournament, held Saturday at the James Valley Christian gym.
The Lady Warbirds defeated the Hitchcock-Tulare Lady Patriots 25-22 and 25-17 in the championship game to move to 18-2 on the season.
Kailynn Dorris was 20 of 21 hitting with 11 kills. Shae Uttecht led the W-W defense with 14 digs.
Katelyn Schroeder was 28 of 28 hitting with eight kills while Lila Johnson set up the H-T offense with 17 assists on 57 of 58 setting for the Lady Patriots, who fall to 17-5.

The Lady Vikings defeated the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks for third place, 19-25, 27-25, and 25-16.
JVC moves to 12-9 behind 11 kills from Addy Knight on 36 of 38 hitting. Andee Frandsen had 27 digs on defense.
The Sharks (5-12) were led by Adison Moore with 10 kills. Rebecca Bich had 28 assists and a pair of aces at the service line.
The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks took home fifth place with a 25-11, 24-26, and 25-21 victory over the Wessington Springs Lady Spartans.
Liz Boschee led the Blackhawks (8-11) with 11 kills and three blocks while Kali Hofer nailed three aces from the service line for SC/W.
Avery Orth paced the Lady Spartans (13-5) with 12 kills on 37 of 44 hitting while also tallying 10 blocks. Alyssa Grohs dished out 21 assists and had 13 digs.

The Highmore-Harrold Pirates swept the Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders 25-16 and 25-17 for seventh place.
The Pirates move to 7-12 behind three aces on 14 of 16 serving by Kenidey Effling. Reghan Westcott led H-H had seven kills on 13 of 16 hitting.

The Crusaders (1-16) were led by Sadie Konechne, Nathasha Appel, and Annaliese VanZee with seven kills apiece.
The Lady Warbirds swept SBA in the opening round 25-6 and 25-8. Shae Uttecht had three aces on 10 of 10 serving along with seven digs for W-W. SBA was led by Sadie Konechne with two kills.
JVC defeated the Blackhawks in the opening round 25-21 and 25-20. The Vikings were led by Cora Hofer with seven kills and four blocks. Kenna Ochsner led SC-W with five kills and 12 digs.
The Lady Patriots opened with a 25-14, 25-17 sweep of Highmore-Harrold. Katelyn Schroeder led H-T with seven kills and four aces. Kenidey Effling led the Pirates with 14 digs.
The sixth-seeded Sharks upset the third-seeded Lady Spartans 25-21, 21-25, and 25-17. The Sharks were led by Elena Campagnolo with 12 kills and 27 digs. Avery Orth paced the Lady Spartans with eight kills, two service aces, two blocks, and 16 digs.
In semifinal action, the Lady Warbirds swept JVC 25-19 and 25-22. Kailynn Dorris had eight kills on 23 of 25 hitting for W-W. Cora Hofer paced the Lady Vikings with seven kills and four blocks.
In the other championship semifinal, Hitchcock-Tulare escaped with a hard-fought 27-25, 23-25, 29-27 victory over Iroquois/Lake Preston. Katelyn Schroeder led the Lady Patriots with nine kills and 28 digs. Adison Moore had 27 digs and three service aces for I/LP.

The Blackhawks defeated SBA 25-22 and 25-9 in consolation semifinal action. Kenzie Schley had 19 assists and nine digs for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Sadie Konechne had four kills for SBA.
In the other consolation semifinal, Wessington Springs defeated Highmore-Harrold 25-23 and 27-25. Raylee Fagerhaug had 14 digs and four service aces for the Lady Spartans. Brooklyn Baloun had 12 assists and a pair of service aces on 10 of 10 serving for the Pirates.
Wolsey-Wessington is off until the Battler Tournament in Gettysburg on Saturday. Hitchcock-Tulare hosts top-ranked Warner in Tulare Tuesday. James Valley Christian hosts Oldham-Ramona-Rutland Tuesday. Iroquois/Lake Preston travels to De Smet Tuesday. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket travels to Sunshine Bible Academy Tuesday. Wessington Springs travels to Ethan. Highmore-Harrold travels to Sully Buttes Tuesday.
