W/WS/SC earns win in opener

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Holden Havlik rushed for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another to lead Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central to a 36-8 victory against Mt. Vernon/Plankinton on Friday.

Tyson Eddy had the first of his two touchdowns in the game on a 3-yard run to open the scoring in the first quarter for W/WS/SC.

Brock Krueger hauled in a 64-yard touchdown receptions from Havlik in the second quarter, before Havlik reached the end zone from a yard out to cap the scoring in the second quarter.

The Blackhawks would add a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter. Havlik scored on a 30-yard run and Eddy scored on a 15-yard run.

Havlik finished with 11 carries for 110 yards rushing, while completing 8 of 17 passes for 158 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Eddy recorded 51 yards on the ground on 15 carries.

Ryder Michalek was the leading receiver for the Blackhawks with seven catches for 107 yards.

Defensively, Caleb Kneen led W/WS/SC with seven tackles and a sack. Blake Larson and Von Eye each had seven tackles, while Payton Uecker had six tackles.

Krueger had and interception for the Blackhawks, while Michalek and Havlik each had a fumble recovery.
W/WS/SC will host Scotland/Menno in Wessington Springs on Friday.
