HURON — Yankton held on for a 3-2 victory against the Huron boys’ soccer team on Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.

After building a 2-1 advantage in the opening half, the Bucks went goal for goal with the Tigers in the second half to secure the win and improve to 6-2-1.

“Yankton is a great team and they showed why they are towards the top of the AA rankings,” Huron coach Leah Branaugh said. “I thought we moved the ball well against them and had some other chances to score, but couldn’t convert.”

Yankton put the first goal on the board in the 19th minute.

The Tigers managed to even things up with a goal by Aung Myit on a pass from Lay Mwe Thaw during the 35th minute.

The deadlocks didn’t last long, however, as the Bucks scored in the next minute to carry a 2-1 lead into the break.

Yankton would stretch its leading margin to two goals with the first goal of the second half in the 50th minute.

Huron answered with an unassisted goal by Aung Aung Htoo in the 63rd minute, but couldn’t come up with anything after that.

“I thought we played much better tonight than we have the last few games,” Branaugh said. “Hopefully we can continue to progress this way and play to our strengths.”

Eh Ja Beh Win inked 10 saves in the net for the Tigers, who are now 3-4-1.

Yankton also escaped with a 3-2 win in the junior varsity game.

Yo Yo and Matthew Thin had goals for Huron, while Klo Hser tallied six saves.

The Tigers will travel to face Sioux Falls Jefferson at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Yankton came away with a 4-0 victory in the varsity girls’ game against Huron on Tuesday at Tiger Stadium.

Hkee Hser had 14 saves in the net for the Tigers.

“The team is learning and improving with each game,” Huron coach Teresa Peterson said.

The Gazelles recorded an 11-0 win in the JV girls’ game.

Kee Ler had 16 saves for the Tigers in the opening half, while Baw Eh had seven saves in the second half.

Huron will travel to face Sioux Falls Jefferson at noon on Saturday.
