Zavesky improves during final day in Class AA tourney

BRANDON — Huron senior Aiden Zavesky shaved six strokes from his score with an 81 in the final round of the Class AA State Boys’ Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Brandon Golf Course.

The improvement gave him a two-day total of 168, which placed him in a three-way tie for spot No. 56 in the 102-golfer field.

Jake Olson of Watertown, who led after the first 18 holes of play, turned in a 66 on Tuesday to finish at 135 and earn the individual championship.

Taten Mauney of O’Gorman finished at 141, which was six strokes behind Olson, in second.

Kaden Rylance of Watertown was third at 144, while Carter Peterson of Brandon Valley was fourth at 146.

Sharing the fifth spot with scores of 147 were O’Gorman teammates Jayden Antonen and Mac Drake, along with Asher Dannenbring of Mitchell.

After shooting a 286 on Monday, Watertown finished at 292 Tuesday for a 578 total to win the AA team title by five strokes over O’Gorman. Pierre was third at 600, followed by Harrisburg at 602 and Mitchell at 617.
