BRANDON — Huron senior Aiden Zavesky opened the Class AA State Golf Tournament with an 87 on Monday at the Brandon Golf Course.
Zavesky, who is the lone golfer in the tournament for the Tigers, turned five pars and had 10 bogeys during the first round of the 36-hole event. He is currently in an eight-way tie for spot No. 67.
Jake Olson of Watertown carded a 69 to hold the lead in the event after the first 18 holes of play by a stroke.
O’Gorman teammates Taten Mauney and Nolan Cinco are locked in a tie with Kaden Rylance of Watertown for the second spot with scores of 70.
Mac Drake of O’Gorman, Carter Peterson of Brandon Valley and Asher Dannenbring of Mitchell shared the fifth spot with scores of 72.
Watertown has a team total of 286, which puts the Arrows one stroke ahead of O’Gorman for the top spot in the race for the team title.
Brandon Valley is third at 301, followed by Harrisburg at 305 and Mitchell at 310.
The final 18 holes of play will be held today.
