MILLER — It was a wild weather day throughout the eastern part of the state, even by South Dakota standards.
It was the same at the Miller Central Speedway. A third of an inch rain fell first thing in the morning, followed by high temps and humidity. A brief shower about race time forced a delay as the track had to be repacked.
The delay helped the late-arriving crowd fill the seats for the best night of racing this season.
The evening was sponsored by Wagner Farms. With the conditions the track was super fast all night, with drivers barely lifting in the corners.
First came the Pump N Pak Pure Stocks. Mike Hammill led off from the pole position. Jordan Rawstern hounded him for the win all the way, with Jayden Michaelsohn closing in at the finish, followed by Curtis Johnson and Trevor Ryan. It was Mike’s tenth Pure Stock feature win at the Miller Central Speedway.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks were next with Jordan Kott leading the first lap before a yellow put the field on his bumper, with Zach Pollock taking the lead on the restart. Pollock led while Broc Stout worked his way forward from 8th starting spot. It looked like Broc was going to run out of laps, but a spin by Domanick Havard set up a green, white, checker finish. Stout pounced on last lap and won his 27th feature at Miller over Pollock, 13th starting Cole Phillips, Texas viisitor Kyle Bertram and Clifford Houser.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled out 19 strong with Dawson Zabel taking off from the outside pole position and leading all the way in a rare flag to flag Mid Mod win over Cory Berquist, Cole Searing, Kyle Knouse and Adam Brotherton. It was Dawson’s first career feature win, great for a team that pulls 150 miles each way every Saturday night. His brother Dylan pulled up to shake hands through the window before the A Mod feature.
The WISSOTA Modified main saw Dylan Zabel lead off outside pole and he was running away with the lead when his engine expired in spectacular fashion on lap 8. Alex Guthmiller led the rest of the way on the restart and won his ninth feature at the speedway over Nick Wranek, Jesse Young, Dale Ames and Arne Anderson.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks were next with polesitter Casey Hanson leading the first six laps before dropping out with a flat tire, with Jeremy North then winning his seventh feature and first since 7/18/14 at the Miller Central Speedway over Cole Searing, Kipp DeGroot, Tyler Anglin and Austin Arbogast.
The WISSOTA Late Models topped off the night with Dustin Arthur leading off of outside pole and running away when the race was stopped so the ambulance crew could attend to a fan in the stands who had been hit in the face with a rock.
