HURON — The Huron Speech & Debate Team traveled to the Watertown Speech Fiesta on Jan. 21.
“Our novice interp squad had a really good showing, getting three students on the awards stage,” said head coach Mitch Gaffer. “As we approach the important National Qualifying tournament at the end of the season, it’s nice to make this kind of showing.”
Top finishers for Huron were:
“We traveled small to this tournament,” Gaffer said. “We had a variety of circumstances that prevented some from traveling. Also, we are still continuing work on the new debate resolutions and should be ready to compete starting next week in Yankton.”
The new Public Forum Debate resolution deals with Turkey’s membership in NATO, and the new LD resolution deals with space exploration and development. The next tournament for the team is the Yankton Lewis & Clark Tournament on Jan. 28-29.
