Temperatures fell to record lows Tuesday night in the Heartland Region. This photo shows a frigid -25 degrees, although the National Weather Service officially clocked Huron at -29, tying a record set for Jan. 30 that was set in 1994. Wind chill in Huron was measured at -49.
De Smet took the honors for the Sioux Falls NWS coverage area, with a low temperature of -36, shattering the city’s previous record of -25. Temperatures are expected to rise through the weekend, with possibly another cold snap on the horizon next week.
