Big Band concert planned in De Smet

Returning by popular demand, Emmy winning Shaun Johnson brings the Big Band’ Experience to the De Smet Event Center stage on Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m.

This fast-paced concert featuring Johnson plus some of the top instrumentalists in the Midwest opens the prestigious 2024 De Smet Area Concert Series. Season memberships and individual tickets are on sale now.

With this group, you’ve got Shaun Johnson, the lead singer for the nationally-known vocal group, Tonic Sol-fa, and added to that, the Big Band sound. Johnson has put together a brassy octet to create a contemporary big band sound with a pop flair, honoring legends like Frank Sinatra and Michael Bublé, while giving the music their own twist. Johnson’s original songs, arrangements and albums have won numerous awards for best pop album, gospel song and Christmas original and have been featured on television and in movies.

You may still take advantage of the cost saving of season memberships at $60 for all five concerts, including Doug Allen Nash’s Johnny Cash & Neil Diamond Tribute; Matt King as “Elvis,” Penny Gilley from RFD-TV; and “American Pie” with Pat and Donna Surface.

If not sold out, individual concert tickets will be on sale for $20. Call Nancy Montross, 605-854-3502, or the Event Center, 605-854-6060 for season memberships or individual ticket information.
