Mark Robish sworn in as Mayor

Posted

HURON – New Huron mayor Mark Robish was sworn in Monday night as part of the regular Huron City Commission meeting.

Outgoing Mayor Gary Harrington thanked the department heads for their support during his time in office.

“You come into this job thinking you know something, and, well, I came into the job knowing nothing,” Harrington joked. “The department heads were very easy to work with and helped me along the way, and I’m sure they’ll do the same with (new mayor Mark Robish).”

Harrington received a token from the commissioners for his time served on the commission and as mayor, then Robish and re-elected commissioner Rich Bragg were sworn into their offices, and Harrington turned the meeting over to Robish.

“This is going to be like riding a bike, but it’s been a while since I rode the bike,” Robish joked as he continued the meeting.

Assistant city engineer Dennis Bennett presented four items to the commission. The first was a payment request to North Star Logistics LLC for work on the transfer station. The payment of $1,067,665.82 was approved. Bennett did clarify that insurance has reviewed the collapse of the original structure and the next step will be for the steel on the ground to be cut and removed before anyone can come in to evaluate the footings that are in place to determine their integrity as the rebuild begins.

A payment was approved to First Rate Excavate Inc. for the parking ramp removal and construction in the amount of $164,320.86. Bennett noted that the striping was done extremely close together, and that is currently being reviewed for correction.

The next item was a bid awarded to Hydro-Klean LLC for the sewer main lining project for $1,964,071.96. This was approved.

Finally, Bennett presented the bid award to BX Civil & Construction Inc. for $238,055.50 for the 3rd St. bridge project. Bennett noted that this falls under the Bridge Improvement Grant program, so there will be money coming back to the city for the work done. No schedule is yet determined, but the bridge will be reduced to one lane at a point in the work to do resurfacing of the bridge. This was approved.
