Bobcats sweep Huron soccer teams

Posted

HURON — Three goals in the opening half wasn’t enough for the Huron boys’ soccer team to earn a victory on Monday. Brookings matched the three-goal effort in the second half to escape with a 4-3 Eastern South Dakota Conference victory at Tiger Stadium.
The Bobcats also inked a 6-0 victory in the girls’ game to collect the sweep.
Eduardo Trujillo, Thai Say and Rogelio Sanchez Perez scored goals for the Tigers in the opening half.
Huron got on the board first, but the Bobcats quickly evened the score. The Tigers would find the net two more times to carry a 3-1 advantage into the half.
“We started the game out strong and scored in the first few minutes,” Huron boys’ coach Leah Branaugh said. “The first half we did  a great job of keeping possession of the ball and making great passes.
“We had a few mistakes, which resulted in Brookings scoring three of the four goals. We need to do a better job communicating on the field so these mistakes don’t happen,” she said. “The team is young and we play many sophomores and juniors for a majority of the game and are still learning.”

Eh Bieh and Baht Khin shared the goalkeeping duties for the Tigers, recording four and three saves, respectively.
Huron and Brookings battled to a 0-0 draw in the junior varsity boys’ game.
Hai Thaw had 10 saves for the Tigers.
Huron, which is now 1-2, will travel to face Spearfish on Friday and Sturgis on Saturday in both boys’ and girls’ matchups.
