HURON — The city of Huron has been honored with the 2018 Excellence in Ready Mixed Concrete Award for its new public works building.
The award, which notes the project embodies “quality from concept through completion,” was presented by the South Dakota Ready Mixed Concrete Association. Mayor Paul Aylward announced the award at Monday’s City Commission meeting.
The $5.1 million public works facility, which includes a separate cold storage building, was constructed in what was originally called the West Industrial Park on the west side of Huron.
Members of the Greater Huron Development Corporation board recently decided to rename the city’s industrial parks to reduce confusion and improvement marketing, and the West Industrial Park is now known as Horizon Industrial Park.
The SDRMCA plaque lists the city’s partners in the construction of the public works facilities, which is now home to the street, traffic and water-sewer departments.
Kyburz-Carlson Construction of Aberdeen was the general contractor and Pierce & Harris Engineering of Huron was the engineer.
Stone Group Architects of Sioux Falls was the architectural firm and the concrete sub-contractor was Chris Waldner & Sons of Huron. Foerster Testing of Brookings provided testing services and GCC Ready Mix of Huron was the concrete producer.
